Local artist Jannette Parent’s plate design was unveiled Monday in a ceremony at the Capitol rotunda in Frankfort.
The plate slogan, “Native Americans share our grandparents’ stories with our children,” was contributed by Jen Spangler Williamson of Frankfort.
The design elements--the traditional Indian in profile, the feather, the reddish hue--are a bit stereotypical. As with the Oklahoma license plate, though, this is somewhat excusable. Again, you want a design that people can recognize easily from a moving car. That means subtlety is out and obviousness is in.
