Spear gets a goose egg

A critic gives the 2006 movie End of the Spear a 0 of 10 rating:Christian fantasy and discrimination. "Our way is better and everyone else is going to hell." And I'm SICK of that philosophy!!!!

This movie doesn't even want to admit that the Natives have their own beliefs and religions. It paints Christianity as the only salvation for people. It paints the Natives as savage murderers and Christians as non-violent hero's. However, some contradictory things come to mind like the Crusades, Reverend Colonel Chivington, Manifest Destiny, etc.

  1. Having just watched Spear, then reading about the Waodani, I have to say that it is yet another instance of Christians coming in - thinking they're doing a good deed and a great service - when in fact they are ruining a people, their lives, their culture, and their heritage.

The end result is that these once highly self-sufficient people resort to groveling for Western junk food and gadgets. Oh, and guns.

There is even one of the tribe who now gives tours to us white folks, at a reasonable price, of course, to help feed his family? Weren't these the people who lived hundreds of years in the jungle, without any assistance - and now he needs to lead cheap tours to feed his family? Prime example of how the christians destroyed the Waodani's.

This man should be able to feed his family by taking the spears he learned how to make from his elders, going into the jungle, and killing meat for his family. He should not be leading those who helped destroy his way of life on little trips through his land. Seems to cut into the time he needs to go get food for his family, and not at a drive-thru.

It is very sad to see the Waodani's become like every other once proud African, Australian, New Zealand, etc tribe who were a people capable of taking care of themselves - and now appear as a group of needy welfare recipients begging for hand outs because their ways are lost. These Waodani's are fat and lazy, and have forgotten how to take care of themselves.

Yes, chrisianizing these "savages" was such a great idea. Why don't the christians focus on themselves and their issues rather than sticking their noses where they don't belong. Start in Colorado, with the Right Reverend Ted Haggard. There is a missionary field ripe for the picking. Those people need some evangelizing.
