Camp for Native candidates

Camp teaches how to run campaignLike most summer camp attendees, Maya Torralba found herself gaining confidence from the lessons instilled by her instructors.

But unlike most camps, where kids swim, play or practice a particular athletic skill, Torralba was one of 45 adults learning how to run a political campaign.

The camp is run by INDN's List, a partisan organization based in Tulsa, Okla., that backs American Indians who are Democratic candidates for political office.
What they learn:A total of 25 tribes from around the nation are represented at the camp. The camp offers vast lessons on the nuances of campaigns.

The first day's itinerary included such lessons as "Delivering an Effective Message," "Creating Your Stump Speech," "How to Create Your Vision," and "Opposition Research Basics."

Speakers are highly skilled consultants and campaign workers who donated their time, Free said.

Holy Samoleons, BatPerson! Maya Torralba Daffron is writerfella's niece, and to see her in an article on this blog means that writerfella must be doing something right. Although INDN fell out of writerfella's graces, that does not mean his inconsideraton extends to the participation of earnest relatives. The article DOES NOT MENTION that another of writerfella's nieces, Krystal Caesar, also is an attendee of the yclept 'camp for Native candidates.' In actual point of fact, writerfella helped to underwrite the attendance of both his nieces to the conference. They also serve who only stand and sign checks...

POSTSCRIPTUM: As far as INDN's public persona, Kalyn Free, writerfella says, "A pie to the mush only would improve her looks!"

So you disagree with Kalyn Free's efforts and have declared her persona non grata in your domain, but you fund your nieces' attendance at her camp? You must be confused.

I think Kalyn looks cuter without a pie in the face than she would with one.

And again, you miss the point, Rob. writerfella is all over the map concerning Native Anerican matters. Some of his responses may appear to be in conflict with one another, but that is just the way he likes to see things done. In fact, he just bought two more cocoanut cream pies!

writerfella's nieces returned home earlier tonight(2 am), and both called writerfella to say that they fulsomely were grateful to have attended the conference. Kalyn Free (if THAT is her name) may have started something, but that does not mean that she is the entire movement. The thrust of the program is that Natives either learn how to run for office, or other Natives learn how to run campaigns of Native candidates. Mayay Torralba Daffron wants to run for State Representative office from this area of Oklahoma, and Krystal Caesar wants to be her campaign worker. No matter what writerfella may feel about the sponsor, would he truly interfere with the wishes of his own people? Not on your tintype...

I'd say being all over the map is similar to being confused. ;-)

"Kalyn Free" does sound sort of like a pseudonym, but it could be her real name.

I'm glad your nieces enjoyed Kalyn's camp. But what if they invite Ms. Free to visit your town?
