ReplyDeleteToo bad she never will get a Kiowa name, which if it did occur would be "Mah-ton onh-ait gya-daw," which means "one size fits all, unless you're Oprah Winfrey..."

What is Sugar Ray Lenord Ndun name? Hes Kiowa!!
ReplyDeleteAre you talking about Sugar Ray Leonard the boxer? I haven't heard he has Kiowa blood.
ReplyDeleteI asked Russell Bates, our resident Kiowa, about this. His response:
"Neither have I. If Sugar Ray is Kiowa, you'd think we'd have heard of it before. Just as 'Tiger' Woods never has divulged his Native heritage, 'Sugar Ray' never has, either, if true."
Damn you guys, showing your age I guess. Right there in Kiowa country for all to see, from where the sun now stands, Sugar Ray will be Kiowa forever!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't make it I just report it.
Odd that I can't find a single Web page linking "Sugar Ray Leonard" and "Kiowa." If you're just "reporting," give us a specific URL so we can check your facts.
ReplyDeleteI remember when Sugar Ray came to Kiowa country and we had a boxing match. He also went to a sweat, ate in Carnegie. He was one cool cat! I was star struck when asked to do the Lords prayer in sign language before the match. Sugar Ray spent time in our little neck of the woods and brought his parents too. I could see him getting a name. He was well loved and he was gracious to Kiowa people. He was a true friend of Jumbo 'Duke' Cooper.
