Ojibwe woman sued for file sharing

Brainerd mom takes on music industry[I]n a case that's attracted attention far from northern Minnesota, Jammie Thomas, a single mother from Brainerd, is fighting a lawsuit filed by the world's most powerful recording companies, who claim she illegally downloaded and shared copyrighted music from her computer.

While industry attorneys say there is clear evidence that Thomas, an employee of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, shared more than 1,700 songs with, potentially, millions of computer users, her attorney, Brian Toder of Minneapolis, said she didn't and refuses to be bullied. He said that instead of paying a small amount to settle, she will spend upwards of $60,000 in attorney fees and costs to fight the industry.
