Carrol, 25, received the honor at the pageant held in Anchorage. She will now compete in the Miss USA Pageant early next year.
The Fairbanksan is the daughter of Pat Carroll and Gwen Hoffman and is the step-daughter of Fairbanks Police Chief Dan Hoffman. In 2001 she was named both Miss World Eskimo-Indian Olympics and Miss Fairbanks Native Association.

She is a UAF dropout. Not a student, and it is sad that you do not have to know anything about native culture or be involved in it to claim being involved in native issues. The only native issue she is familiar with is alcoholism.
I don't know if that's true, but it's not a very nice thing to say.
Maybe she dropped out after she won, since the newspaper I quoted said she was a student.
If you ask me, the whole concept of beauty pageants is outdated. If you want to honor women for their leadership qualities, have a leadership pageant, not a beauty pageant. If you want to honor Natives for their cultural knowledge, have a cultural knowledge pageant, not a beauty pageant. Etc.
Courtney is such a beautiful girl, inside and out and so sad for someone so young is going through an experience like cervical cancer. On the positive side of things, I hope that young girls will learn from Courtney's experience and will not fall into a promicuous and reckless lifestyle to the point of contracting something like HPV which is the common cause of cervical cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. Hang in there Courtney!
