Only jeweler in Congress

Ben Campbell’s jewelry to benefit SmithsonianIgnacio jeweler Ben Nighthorse Campbell has designed a silver and turquoise pendant to benefit the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian.

In his former career as a U.S. Senator, and the only jeweler ever to have served in Congress, Campbell was instrumental in sponsoring the legislation that established the museum and was invited to stage a solo exhibition of his work when the museum opened in 2004.

  1. Writerfella here --
Whatever Ben Nighthorse Campbell might have represented as a a Native American artist, the truth is that Pawnee silversmith Bruce Caesar was selected as the Natrional Endowment of the Arts Fellowship Award winner in 1998, which made him a National Treasure, and not Ben Nighthorse Campbell.

  2. I don't think anyone has said Campbell is an artistic superstar. In fact, they may have said the opposite: that he's gotten some commissions because he was a senator.
