The challenge for Native films

Native American Filmmaking

Comment:  The challenge is to tell stories from a Native perspective.

Ironically, this video starts with Smoke Signals, which was a Native creation, and finishes with Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, which wasn't. Having Adam Beach alternate comments with Aidan Quinn doesn't change the point. Dick Wolf told his story from a white point of view.

Chris Eyre seems to understand what Adam Beach doesn't. Namely, that historical dramas, even if told from a Native point of view, aren't doing Indians many favors. They may employ Native actors, but they aren't eliminating Native stereotypes or portraying contemporary Native people. They reinforce the notion that Indians lived in the past and are gone now.
