Fast-rising Ojibwe singer

Country singer chooses Seguin for photosCrystal Shawanda, one of the newest country music entertainers coming out of Nashville, appeared for a photo session Friday afternoon at the Texas Theatre, one of three venues she was scheduled to visit.

Shawanda, a member of the Ojibwe Tribe from a reservation called Wikwemikong on Canada’s Manitoulin Island, debuted her country music career at age 13 at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in Nashville.

Her hit single, “You Can Let Go Now,” was produced by RCA Records and has been one of the fastest climbing singles in Canada. It was released in the United States on March 17.
