Racist Baum and segregated Oz
A debate about L. Frank Baum's editorials against Indians, the Ghost Dance movement, and the diversity or lack thereof in Oz continues:
Rob:
"Separate but equal" was ruled unconstitutional and un-American in 1954. It's not a wonderful message for today's multicultural children; it's a mixed message at best.
Eric:
But Baum was not writing for TODAY, he was writing for his own time. Baum died in 1919, thirty-five years before Brown vs. Board of Education.
