You missed this one: "Just recently, at a reservation, a delightful young lady made away with $100 of mine at a blackjack table in Detroit."
The nearest reservation is many miles from Detroit. The writer is either very geographically confused, or is gambling remotely from one place to another via webcam or somethig. It is as if he said "Recently, in Sacramento, a delightful young lady made away with $100 of mine at a blackjack table in Los Angeles."
Perhaps he thought the Indian casino had to be situated on reservation land in Detroit. The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians owns land in Palm Springs, so it's not entirely implausible. But if that was his assumption, he was wrong.
