Chickasaws renovate theater

Ada theater is staging a comebackThe theater has been undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation over the past few years.

On the inside, it has been more of a resurrection, restoring the long-forgotten splendor of one of the first theaters in Ada. The seats in the old auditorium were removed to make way for new. Walls were knocked down, and plumbing was pulled out. It's all part of an effort to make the McSwain Theater shine again.

The theater has been home to rising country stars, as well as a fixture in Ada's Main Street backdrop for nearly 80 years. The Chickasaw Nation bought the theater for nearly $206,000 in 2002 and 2003. Officials with the Chickasaw Nation would not release how much renovations to the McSwain Theater have cost, saying it was proprietary information.
