TV show featuring Navajo Nation gets favorable reviewsThe Daily Times took to the streets this week to ask members of the Navajo Nation what they thought about Spurlock and his experience. Here's what people had to say:
"I really liked it," said Eric Harrison, 26, a labor worker. "He (Morgan Spurlock) is a cool guy for taking 30 days out of his life to live on the reservation."
"I think it was a good attempt for him to learn the culture and way of life," said Alissa Davis, 21, a summer youth worker in Upper Fruitland.
"A lot of people, especially overseas, want to know about our culture," said Lenora Ateme, 37, a homemaker. "He did a good job putting that information (in the show) for people to see."Taking a good walk in another's shoes Perhaps most important, however, is that he learned about the culture and the human nature of the Navajo, by being willing to invest 30 days and nights of his life living with them.
The long-ago written Bible teaches us that we should be willing to walk an extra mile for another person, so it is not as if this television show invented the idea.
Yet, most people by human nature choose, knowingly or unknowingly, to remain ignorant of what drives and motivates our neighbors, or of what hurts or upsets them, what makes them happy, what makes them proud and what matters to them regarding cultural significance and heritage.Comment: For more on the subject, see
