I did see the "old time" scenes, artistically altered so it was hard to see things, with "primitive" Quileutes apparently wearing animal furs with ears (?) on their heads, confronting the pioneer-era version of the Cullen vampire coven. This was a very short part. Also, if this information means anything, there were 5 or so Natives in the movie. All males, all with very long hair. There were 2 or 3 guys who were Jacob's buddies (soon to be fellow wolfpack members in the later stories) but for some reason they were only identified as Jacob's friends in the credits, rather than by their well-known character names.
There was one interesting scene in the movie where Bella was googling Quileute legends. I know from our blog posts that both of us have done that ourselves.
Come to think of it, the movie added a Native character that I don't recall from the books. After looking up Quileute stuff on the web, Bella goes and buys a book from what looks like a Native bookseller.
I'll probably see this movie when it comes out on DVD.
For more on the subject, see Quileute Werewolves in Twilight.
From what I have read in the reviews since this movie came out, "Twilight" is a significant player in the avant-garde of "21st century chick flicks" - apparently a whole new genre unto itself.
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for movies with teens as the major characters (as I am no doubt reminded of when I, myself, was young, dumb, and full of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum).
