Nuu-chah-nulth artists at Olympics

Local Nuu-chah-nulth artists works to be showcased at 2010 OlympicsThe works of 10 Nuu-chah-nulth artists from Port Alberni have been chosen to be showcased at the 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver.

Local artists Tim Paul and Rod Sayers will be working collaboratively with eight other Nuu-chah-nulth artists to produce two pieces of art work each that will be shown at Olympic venues this winter. One piece will be shown at Olympic venues, and the other will be auctioned off later, project coordinator Kelly Foxcroft-Poirier said.

The crown jewel of the project will be four glass encased cedar boxes stacked to stand five metres high. The traditional-contemporary melded piece will serve as an outdoor sculpture outside the Richmond Skating Oval, which was one of the first venues to get aboriginal art under the VANOC Aboriginal Art program.Comment:  For more on the subject, see Olympics to Benefit Host First Nations, Olympics Resistance Network, and "No Olympics on Stolen Land."
