2nd NB3 Challenge raises $1 million

Notah Begay golf tourney raises more than $1 million

By Will ChavezIn August four pro golfers gathered on the Oneida Indian Nation reservation in Verona, N.Y., to play a charity skins golf tournament for Native youth.

The field included 14-time championship winner Tiger Woods and the only full-blood Native American who is part of the Professional Golfers Association, Notah Begay III (Navajo, San Felipe and Isleta Pueblo), whose foundation hosted the event called the NB3 Challenge.

The foundation recently announced more than $1,053,000 was raised by the event. Funds will be used in efforts to fight the disproportionate incidence of obesity and diabetes among Native youth.
