National Geographic scouts Four Corners for geotourism project

By Jenny KaneThe map will be part of the publication's global geotourism project, a worldwide campaign to encourage sustainable tourism that also promotes a local sense of place. The map will pinpoint local accommodations, restaurants, attractions and must-have experiences.

"This will likely be one of the most monumental tourism efforts that the Four Corners will have seen," said Aztec Planning Director Roshana Moojen, noting that the publication's geotourism sector had never mapped such a large area.

The area, which will be known as the "Trail of the Ancients" will not necessarily be a bordered region, but instead a domain defined by attractions that exude the Four Corners culture.
