Iolo learns from American Indians

By Sion MorganWales should learn from the mistakes of American Indians to ensure the future of its language and culture, according to nature-loving TV presenter Iolo Williams.

The 48-year-old has just returned from the United States where he has filmed a six-part documentary exploring how American Indians cope with life in the 21st century.

In each of the six programmes in the series Iolo visits a different tribe of American Indians and spends a week living with each group.

“One thing that was perfectly obvious was that the groups in Canada fare much better than those in America,” said Williams. “Almost every American Indian tribe in America suffers in terms of the language, culture and life in general–their traditional way of life being swallowed up in modern American society.
