Cayuga DJ named Canada's best

Cayuga DJ Named Best Party Rocker; A Tribe Called Red on TourDJ Shub, Cayuga, was crowned Canada’s best DJ at the Red Bull Thre3style competition in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Saturday, according to NiagaraThisWeek. To get to the national finals, Shub first had to win qualifying and regional competitions; in September, he will compete for Canada against 17 other national champions in the World Finals, held in Chicago.

“It feels really great to be first Aboriginal to win the Canadian crown. I hope what I do inspires my people to dream big and never give up,” he told NiagaraThisWeek. In 2008, he was the first Aboriginal to be crowned Canada’s DMC DJ Champion. “I thought I was finished battling after 2008, so this Red Bull battle was like me coming out of retirement, and it’s going pretty good so far,” he said.

Shub competed against four other DJs; each was had 15 minutes to show off their signature style in a set that was required to incorporate three genres of music. Skratch Bastid, one of the judges, said, “DJ Shub handled the first place like a pro and his polished skills was the deciding factor, amongst a group of fantastic DJs, in an amazing city,” according to Red Bull.com.
