Today, Governor Sandoval, Nevada Tribal leaders, and American Indian performers did just that. The grand opening of the Indian Territory Exhibit begins at 3pm on the second floor of the Reno-Tahoe airport.
It's a beautiful display of the Great Basin American Indians, telling the story of three major Indian tribes, the Washoe, Paiute (pay-oot), and Western Sho-shone. The exhibit also features an educational film provided for spectators to enhance the exhibit experience.
The exhibit is permanent, and located in a public area of the airport.

Video: Nevada's Indian Territory Exhibit Opens at Reno Airport
On May 3, Washoe, Paiute and Western Shoshone tribal members joined airport officials and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval to open a new exhibit at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport devoted to the culture and traditions of the state's American Indians.
"The corner exhibit, against a backdrop textured like an Indian basket, features videos, photographs, display cases and a stone carving in the shape of Nevada depicting areas where the state’s tribes originate," notes the Reno Gazette-Journal. The $20,000 display was created by the Nevada Indian Commission.
The purpose of the exhibit, called Nevada's Indian Territory, is to educate the 3.8 million tourists and other travelers that pass through the airport annually of the history and culture of the state's American Indians.
“This project will showcase and raise awareness of Nevada’s indigenous people,” Gov. Sandoval said.
