The Bermuda Indians

Bermuda's Indians reconnect with their ancestorsNearly 100 Bermudians sang and danced their way through a huge Native American festival to honour their ancestors.

They were among 500 'tribes' who came together to share their culture at the four-day Feast of Green Corn and Dance - referred to as 'Schemitzun' - in Connecticut.

The event is significant for many St. David's Islanders because research proves the Pequots were brought to Bermuda many years ago as slaves. As a result the St. David's Island Indians and Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs, the Hon. Wayne Perinchief, were welcomed to the Pow Wow as cousins.
