Buffett nominated for NAMMYs

Peter Buffett Nominated For Two Native American Music AwardsPeter Buffett, the musician/philanthropist who recently released the 'crisp, percolating' (USA Today, 8/7/07) left–of-center rock album 'Staring At the Sun' (BeSide Records), has also been nominated for two Native American Music Awards (NAMMYs). Buffett began exploring the culture after composing the pivotal 'Fire Dance' scene for the Oscar winning score of the film 'Dances With Wolves.'

Nominated for his work on the DVD of the epic stage show 'Spirit: The Seventh Fire,' Buffett has been tapped for 'Best Long Form Video/DVD' along with his collaborator Chief Hawk Pope. Buffett is also a nominee in the 'Native Heart' category, an honor awarded to a non-Native American who has made a special contribution to preserving the music and spirit of Native American culture.
Comment:  Buffett's theme for 500 Nations is one of my favorite Native-style tunes.
