Buffy censored

Buffy Sainte-Marie's censored soundsNearly two decades after Cree singer and songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie's song "Universal Soldier" was released and shipments of her records mysteriously disappeared, the truth of the censorship and suppression by the U.S. government became public.

Now, in federal court, Charles August Schlund III stated he is a covert operative and supports Sainte-Marie's assertions that the United States took action to suppress rock music because of its role in rallying opposition to the Vietnam War.

This is one of those where the actual story tells a lot more than the webmaster's summary. Once you click the link, you find that the album-suppressing claim is just one made by a conspiracy nutter, tied up into lunatic Buddy Holly, Kennedy and Rockefeller conspiracy theories: all as part of a diabolical plot to DESTROY ROCK AND ROLL AND REPLACE IT WITH COUNTRY MUSIC. It's not mentioned, but it would go without saying that he thinks that the CIA killed Hendrix, John Lennon, and Elvis as part of the diabolical plot. Did the CIA take out half of Lynyrd Skynrd? No doubt, and to be sure I bet Keith Moon's drumming was deemed to be a threat to the Rockefellers, so he got snuffed too. Mama Cass? The CIA made her eat that ham sandwich!

You have to read down further in the article before it leaves the loony-tunes world of Schlund and actually gets into Sainte-Marie... who actually has some interesting things to say without going coo-coo.

The article describes the claims of Charles August Schlund III, who was testifying under oath in a federal court. The first five paragraphs detail his charges and Sainte-Marie's thoughts on the subject. Despite Schlund's other claims, his claims about Sainte-Marie are central to the article.

Nevertheless, I don't know if he's telling the truth or not. That's why I ran the article without an editorial comment.

P.S. I think you mean "cuckoo," not "coo-coo." Coo-coo is what a dove does.
