Poetry not a snooze

Native American poet to give campus readingDr. Erika Wurth, Western English professor, said the combination of Smoker's talent and personhood should be a real eye-opening experience for students.

"I think that because she's a down-to-earth, smart, real human being, seeing her as a Native American poet will allow people to not only revise their ideas about how poetry can be but what it is (especially in the Midwest, where the native population is so invisible), and what Native American people are like."

Wurth wants to emphasize that Smoker's poetry reading "is not a poetry snooze. She is certainly one of the smartest poets I know, and this is certainly demonstrated in her work."
