Where Native America meets pop culture
Writerfella here -- It only was a matter of time before Tony Hillerman's mystery novels spawned similar works from other authors, Native and non-Native. Each author and book should be judged on their own merits, of course. The only worry is that some will be written so quickly and fitfully that they only will incorporate and then perpetuate stereotypes that pre-existed such books. Unfortunately, it must happen, just as in the case where a dozen carpenters of various skill levels set out to make similar chairs; only a few will prove to be comfortable enough and sturdy enough to satisfy you if you sit on them. All BestRuss Bates'writerfella'
