Jacoby Ellsbury's background

Local's cousin a member of Red Sox during playoffsJacoby is half Navajo and reportedly is the first Navajo to reach the Major Leagues. He grew up in Madras, Oregon, near the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, where his mother worked for the tribe as an early intervention/special education specialist. His father Jim is a BIA forester.

Much of his mother's family, though, including grandfather Franklin McCabe (Margie's father), lived mainly in the Parker, AZ area along the Colorado River. Jacoby is a registered member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes (CRIT) and he was featured in a front page story of a newspaper for the CRIT in August.
