Natives may buy Denver newspaper

Natives in mainstream media may increase under new enterpriseA Northern Cheyenne media entrepreneur plans to open a Native-oriented multimedia and media-training resource office in Denver, and he’s still considering purchase of the ailing Rocky Mountain News.

Shawn White Wolf, 34, owner and president of White Wolf Media Group, Helena, Mont., said his enterprise hopes to have an office located in Denver within the next few weeks.

The White Wolf offices in Denver would focus on developing resources to increase the number of American Indians in mainstream media, but the “overall goal will be to expand our multimedia business on a national level,” he said.

“We’re currently moving into music and promotional video, and we’ll be doing multimedia productions.”
Comment:  I gather Shawn White Wolf is a conservative. One could argue that Natives need more conservative voices to counter all the liberal blather out there. For instance, the notion that the US routinely gave smallpox-laden blankets to Indians or the idea of creating an independent Republic of Lakotah.

But most liberal positions are basically correct. What would a conservative Native pundit say about Indian mascots, for instance? "Yay, Washington Redskins and Redskin magazine! You go on stereotyping us! We love ya for it!"
