Muscogees go to Disney World

The real thing

Oklahoma Indian storytellers share traditional tales with Disney World audiencesSince he co-founded his theatrical storytelling troupe Mahenwahdose in 1992, Hill has been telling the stories he learned in childhood to audiences near and far. His stories, he said, offer enlightenment about his tribe’s culture as well as the wisdom those stories convey.

Hill and Jehnean Washington, the other voice behind Mahenwahdose (a Muscogee word meaning “the real thing”), continue to share the folklore of America’s tribes. Next month they will take those stories onto one of the most visited stages in the world.

Mahenwahdose will perform at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center as part of the “Oklahoma Experience,” a feature exhibit at the 12th annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival in Orlando, Fla.

Oklahoma is the first state to have a display of this kind at the massive celebration.
