Akipa came to Albuquerque from South Dakota to record "Songs From The Black Hills" with Bee last year. The record was nominated in the Best Native American Music Album category for a 2008 Grammy Award, and if it wins, Bee will share in the award as the record's producer.
Bee has been nominated 15 times in various folk categories and three times in the Native American categories for producing; he's won twice. He recorded "Songs From The Black Hills" with his son Robbie Bee.
Five recordings are vying for "Best Native American Music Album." They are: "Songs From The Black Hills" by Bryan Akipa; "Spo'Mo'Kin'Nan" by Black Lodge; "Red Rock" by Northern Cree; "Come To Me Great Mystery—Native American Healing Songs" by various artists and "Faith" by Kevin Yazzie.
The ceremony takes place February 8 in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast on CBS.
