LaDonna Harris as a "maker"

LaDonna Harris to Appear on "New Mexico in Focus," in Conjunction with PBS Documentary "MAKERS: Women Who Make America"LaDonna Harris (Comanche), president and founder of Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO), will be featured on New Mexico PBS’s “New Mexico in Focus,” in conjunction with the PBS documentary “MAKERS: Women Who Make America.” The special will air on New Mexico PBS (KNME) March 8, 2013 at 7:00pm MDT.

Harris, one of three local women selected for the series, is a remarkable statesman and national leader who has enriched the lives of thousands. She has devoted her life to building coalitions that create change. She has been a consistent and ardent advocate on behalf of Tribal America. In addition, she continues her activism in the areas of civil rights, environmental protection, the women’s movement and world peace.

Artist Judy Chicago and Governor Susana Martinez were also selected for the series.

According to PBS, “MAKERS” tells the remarkable story of the most sweeping social revolution in American history, as women have asserted their rights to a full and fair share of political power, economic opportunity, and personal autonomy.
