I live in a very rural area surrounded by hills, so I can't get CBS...didn't see "Comanche Moon." I can't help but wonder, though, why Native American actors of the caliber of Adam Beach and Wes Studi even sink to take on the portrayal of such characters????

What you're suggesting is the "Nazi guard" defense. Namely, "I was just doing my job. Therefore, what happened isn't my responsibility."
This is also the excuse used by the Indians who became Army scouts and hunted down other Indians. With your attitude, you would've fit right in with them.

Adam Beach is earning $2 million a year for SVU. He doesn't have to take stereotypical roles like Blue Duck.
Maybe he just wanted to play a villain for once. Or maybe he's the kind of actor who feels he must keep working even if the roles are inferior.
