MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN #42

Written by MARC SUMERAK. Penciled by VINCENç VILLAGRASA. Cover by MICHAEL RYAN. A night at the museum becomes a complete cat-astrophe when a feline femme fatale procures a priceless piece of Native American art. But the fur really begins to fly when the beautiful Black Cat is caught in the perilous pounce of the Puma! Looks like we've got ourselves a cat fight, Spidey... and you're caught in the middle! (Watch out for hairballs!) 32 PGS./All Ages …$2.99
Comment:  Puma is a Native villain, of course.

This comic could be good, but I'm guessing its treatment of Indians will be superficial and stereotypical.

One thing atypical about Puma is that Marvel's artist gave him white man feet, complete to the anthropoidal gap between the big and second toes. Obviously they must believe that Indians simply are brown Caucasians...

"...gave him white man feet"

Puma is a capable and strong superhero. No-one gave him those feet. He fought for them on his own and took them from a white-man using his own intelligence, strength, and cunning.

I've worked with comic-book artists. I'd say none of them are detail-minded enough to draw the Indians' feet correctly. I'm happy if they put some effort into making the Indians' faces look non-Caucasian.

Is dMarks saying that Puma also was able to choose his parents? More of a supernaturalhero than a superhero? Shades of John Puma Mellencamp!

I was just winging off a variation of that old joke:

Woman 1: "I'm 64 years old, but I have the face of a 16 year old girl."

Woman 2: "Well, you'd better give it back, you are getting it all wrinkled"

Or the variation of an old writerfella joke: while out driving in the wilds with others and beer, writerfella usually holds his water just fine. "Don't you have to whiz?" someone will ask. And writerfella answers, "No 'cause I have an old beer drinker's bladder. And boy is he going to be mad when he sees what I've done to it!"
