Ms. Wheelchair Oklahoma has high hopes of changing the futureBy Skiler SchmitzFormer Durant resident Deanna Cheek was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Oklahoma on February 19, 2011, after spending 19 years of her life inside a wheelchair paralyzed from the waist down. Cheek recently said that she wants to use her new title to advocate, educate and show the world that there is absolutely no stopping her or other individuals with disabilities.And:
Living in Durant, Cheek teamed up with her Native American Tribe, the Choctaw Nation, where she was able to attend more courses that geared her back into the work field and helped her become a part of the Oklahomans for Independent Living office in McAlester.
Over the years, Cheek has received some very high mentions from both President Bill Clinton and Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating for Oklahoma Disabled Employee American Award and American Disabled Employee Award.Comment: Who thinks of a blond woman in a wheelchair as an Indian? You do, now.

It's the 21st centuary, I have a blonde blue eyed Tongan boy in my class. One cannot make assumptions about anybody's ethnicity base on looks.
