NativeAuthors.comNative American people and their various cultures have been portrayed in American literature for more than three centuries. Few realize, however, that Native Americans themselves have been making their own significant contribution to American writing for a long time. Specializing in work by American Indian poets, writers, historians, storytellers and performers. The publications included here range from novels and books of poetry to children's literature, historical analysis, journals and newspapers, sacred traditions and more. Audio CDs and Cassettes cover several of these areas, including traditional storytelling, poetry and Native American music. All books and tapes in this catalog are authored or co-authored by people of Native American ancestry.

Our GRASS ROOTS Mission Statement is to make heard the voices of Native people on their own terms. For this reason, every attempt is made to choose material that is actively supported by the Native communities it represents. All books and cassettes have been further reviewed for cultural sensitivity and accuracy. The goals of the North American Native Authors Catalog include:

1) The promotion of Native American literature.

2) A Raised awareness of Native issues and perspectives.

3) The Empowerment of Native individuals and communities through literature.

4) Mentoring the next generation of Native writers.

5) To acknowledge and further understand the importance of literature in modern day Native American society.
