2009 FAITA ceremony canceled

A note on the First Americans in the Arts website says the annual award ceremony has been canceled:***17th Annual Award Presentation & Dinner*** CANCELLED

The board regrets to say with a heavy heart that this year's awards presentation and dinner has been cancelled due to the economy.

Please check back in a week for this year's award winners and our virtual program.
Comment:  By "the economy," they mean that ticket and sponsorship sales were too slow to justify the event. They've always struggled to make ends meet, so this isn't a total surprise.

As long-time readers know, I've attended every FAITA ceremony since the fourth one. This would've been my 14th ceremony in a row. Let's hope they can get things back on track next year.

For more on the subject, see First Americans in the Arts.
