We Shall Remain: Utah's logo

A correspondent notes that the main We Shall Remain logo--a tipi--is stereotypical. It may represent Plains Indians, but it doesn't represent all Indians.

Good point, but it's tough to come up with a symbol that represents all Indians. The National Indian Gaming Association uses a staff with feathers and a symbol of the four directions--which I believe are Plains icons. The National Congress of the American Indian uses a stylized Plains Indian chief. The First Americans in the Arts uses the ubiquitous feather.

Maybe we could come up with a logo using pottery, basketry, or some abstract symbol. But it probably would exclude some Indian cultures. They're simply too diverse for one symbol to encompass them.

My correspondent says Utah's Indians rejected the tipi logo for their companion pieces. They came up with the one below. Rock art is a decent idea, although it's probably more relevant to Western than Eastern Indians. It may be about the best anyone can do.
