It will be a battle of the Albertans in the Gemini category for best actress in a dramatic series this year.

Calgarian and first-time nominee Michelle Thrush is up for the honour for her role in the harrowing APTN drama Blackstone, and will face Jasper native Erin Karpluk for the lead in CBC’s Being Erica.

Thrush, who plays an alcoholic and grieving mother the Alberta-based drama about poverty and corruption on a native reserve, will also be competing against co-star Carmen Moore, The Republic of Doyle’s Krystin Pellerin, Lauren Lee Smith from The Listener, and Camille Sullivan for Shattered. Karpluk won the award in 2009.
