Why does anyone accord Rush Tojudgment Limp-paw any regard at all? He is not a conservative, he is not a racist, he is not a misogynist. He is an actor, a mummer, a poseur, a performer, a mime who forgot he shouldn't talk, and the public's fool. He will write and say what the largest segments of his audience will buy and delight in being challenged because it provides fodder where there might have been little for him to use to his own advantage. writerfella says, ignore the ignorant and you hand them no rocks. Rush is DEA's meat, in any case...

Touche, Russ. Limbaugh is a big, fat, tedious clown.

You could say "ignore the ignorant" about any of the people who perpetrate Native stereotypes. But then there'd be no point in doing my Stereotype of the Month contest. There'd be no point in doing this website or blog, or promoting the stereotyping-busting films at NativeVue.org.

In reality, the contest has educated some non-Native people. It's also bolstered the spirits of some Native people--by showing them they aren't alone in feeling misused and abused. The same is true of my website and blog: They're doing what they're supposed to be doing.

In short, enlightening the ignorant is a better policy than ignoring the ignorant. My critiques of Limbaugh won't affect him directly, but they may persuade some of his wavering fans to turn against him. And they'll give his critics more ammunition to use against him.

I've sure learned a lot from the voluminous documentation in the Blue Corn site.

But that's not what writerfella was saying. What I meant was that people do not believe that things because they are true, or that because they are false. They believe them because they want to believe them. As long as you have spokesmen like Rush, who shall dissuade them from belief? And if you were someone who repeats what others already believe, who do you pay?

If you're right, then Limbaugh's critics are giving people something to believe. Until recently, there have been few alternatives to the cultural tsunami of right-wing talk radio. Now those who are tired of bigotry and hatemongering can find other views to validate their doubts about Rush.

Except it didn't pay to play alternative, as Air America quickly and quietly went into bankruptcy. But on the hopeful side, the Faux News Network abruptly and inexplicably took a nosedive, so there was good news tonight!

I know Air America hasn't done well. On the other hand, Michael Moore has been successful with his liberal books and documentaries. So there's evidence that people are looking for an alternative to right-wing propaganda.

...and Michael Moore is happy to fill the market for left-wing "propaganda" (whatever that means) to counter it, in a no-less misleading, no-less-partisan fashion than Limbaugh. Both are basically creators of very long campaign ads.

I am surprised why Moore hasn't done a radio gig. No doubt he's been approached to do so.

One little comment: that's a fairly flattering pic of Limbaugh there. Wondered why it was chosen; non-flattering pics of him are pretty easy to find.
