I have been watching this commercial for breast cancer and was a little taken aback by some of the stereotypical images about being a warrior. I applaud the women who are breast cancer survivors and Ford Motor Company for stepping up and leading the way, but at who's expense. The Ford commercial shows a woman daubing paint on her face before running a race to the beat of tribal-style drums. It vaguely stereotypes the "primitive" rites of indigenous people, but it doesn't depict anything specific about Native Americans.
I think you're wrong about the pretty blonde white woman painting her face. If you remember the old Hollywood movies and Halloween costumes they always depict a person with the striped red marks on their faces. As a matter of fact look at the first picture you have in this article. It looks like the mascot has two red marking on his face.
