In a speech to Latin American and Caribbean bishops at the end of a visit to Brazil, the Pope said the Church had not imposed itself on the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
They had welcomed the arrival of European priests at the time of the conquest as they were "silently longing" for Christianity, he said.

And what did Pope Benedict XVI say that so insulted Central and South American Natives? Something like, "That's strange. You don't look it!"

per the story, the pope said, "They had welcomed the arrival of European priests at the time of the conquest as they were "silently longing" for Christianity, he said." i guess for some people its easy to dismiss the outright death of millions of native people just 'cuz they're a different skin color. it certainly would take a native to understand the arrogance and ignorance of this bullshit statement...

writerfella agrees, but consider that it would have been the same kind of statement if George ("The Phantom Menace") Bush were visiting Natives in South Dakota. As leaders, W and the Pope both have a bill of goods to sell, fraught with propaganda and with special effects by Military-Industrial Smoke & Mirrors...

I understand the Pope's arrogance and ignorance and I'm not Native. That's why I posted the item.
