Maybe now John Herrington will resign from public view entirely, and that would be most refreshing...

John Herrington continually claims to have been 'the first Native American into space,' even though it widely is known that he was no such thing. Herrington even iterates such a claim in a current statewide TV commercial here in Oklahoma for his 'tribe,' the Chickasaws. It is in fact the Chickasaws who hate all other tribes in Oklahoma, most specifically the Wichita, Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache tribes. The Chickasaws lost vast areas of lands in Indian Territory originally named as their own, when reservations were established for other tribes incarcerated here. It was and is a matter of 'all for one' and not one for all, as far as modern Chickasaws are concerned...

Are you sure Herrington claims to be the first? Maybe reporters misunderstand and claim it for him.

Here are the facts:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_astronauts_by_nationality

Bill Pogue, first launched November 16, 1973, as an inductee to the 5 Civilized Tribes Hall of Fame can lay claim to being the first Native American in space. John Herrington, an American citizen first launched November 24, 2002, is the first tribal registered Native American in space (Chickasaw).

Russ, are you jealous because Herrington went into space while you can only dream of going there? Are you mad because he beat your Ensign Walking Bear into space by 300 years? You can tell us the truth.

Well, writerfella was one of the original selectees (no brag, just fact) for the 'Journalist Into Space' program, but indeed got passed over when Reagan converted the program into 'Teacher Into Space.' But the eventual teacher candidate selected, Christa MacCauliffe, was killed when the Challenger space shuttle exploded on launch. Therefore, Pres. Reagan may have saved writerfella's life. But writerfella knows that you, Rob, have roughly the same Native blood quanta as John Herrington, and that's the truth! Which means that you are asking Herrington and yourself such questions, and writerfella is free to go to his favorite gay bar and ignore the question entirely...

POSTSCRIPTUM: since STAR TREK takes place 250 years in the future, by such time hundreds of Native Americans had gone into space and so Dawson WalkingBear was but one of such individuals. Now, the next thing to be done would be to find out if any of those Natives EVER EVEN HEARD OF JOHN HERRINGTON! Like Iron Eyes Cody, Herrington long since would have been found out as BOGUS...

No, I asked you some questions, Russ, not John Herrington. But I forget that you ignore every question you can't answer. No surprise that you've done it once again.

The original Star Trek famously occurred 300 years in the future, not 250. To be specific, Captain Kirk's first recorded adventures took place in 2266, exactly 300 years after the TV show debuted. 250 years in the future would be the year 2216, or 17 years before Kirk's supposed birthdate.

That you got even this basic point wrong is telling. Except for your confabs 30 years ago, you don't know much about Trek history, do you?

writerfella will iterate a statement he has made before on this blog: writerfella only works in the STAR TREK Universe, he doesn't live there...

And I'll reiterate what I just said: You don't know much about Trek history, do you?

writerfella doesn't need to know any more about Trek history than he already does because writerfella is a large part of Trek history in and of himself. No brag, just fact, and he still has that T-shirt, "writerfella boldly went where you can't..."

You wrote a script and all you got was a lousy t-shirt? Next time, get a book on Trek history so you don't make so many mistakes.

In actual point of fact, writerfella wrote two scripts for the Original STAR TREK series, four for the Animated ST, two for ST: THE NEXT GENERATION, one for ST: VOYAGER, one for ST: ENTERPRISE, one complete screenplay ST: RAGNAROK, soon will have two episodes of the internet series ST: EXCALIBUR, and soon will have two ST internet comic books, "The Patient Parasites" and "Return To Paradise," the latter centering around Kirk revisiting the world of Miramanee. writerfella has an Emmy, a Newberry Medal, a Peabody Award, a Robby, a Melies Prize, a Fantasy Film Federation Award, and a Gold Palm from the 15th International Television Film Festival of Monte Carlo for his STAR TREK work. And, oh yes, that T-shirt...

Not too self-important, are you? Why don't you list your other writing credits for the umpteenth time, since you love talking about your accomplishments?

So you don't live in the Star Trek universe, but you brag about it as if you did. The difference is pretty immaterial.

If you don't live in the Star Trek universe, you certainly live in the past. Too bad you haven't done anything worth noting in the last 30 years.

You wrote a dozen Star Trek scripts, but only one was actually used. I guess you're not that good of a writer.

That's about what anyone would conclude after seeing your mediocre "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth." As I said before, fans rank it something like 19th of the 22 animated episodes.

Let's note that you co-wrote the episode with David Wise--something you never mention yourself. Have you ever won an award for something you did alone?

The entire animated Trek series won an Emmy after your script was submitted. You didn't win an Emmy personally, although you may have deluded yourself into thinking otherwise.

Anything else you need me to straighten out for you? Or does that about cover it?

He's my grandma Bow's nephew. She's Chickasaw and so is he. She met my lala Phil Lane, Sr. at Haskell. He gave Herrington the eagle feather he carried into space. Sort of don't get Writerfella's comments. They seem out of left field to me. But I am Dakota and know nothing of the infighting that goes in Oklahoma.
