Indians for Obama (and vice versa)
Native Times endorses Obama for President US Senator Barack Obama is the choice of the Native American Times to become the next president of the United States. This choice made before the all important super Tuesday election to get as many Native Americans to the polls as possible to push Obama to victory. This is not an anti-Hillary vote but a decision based on what is best for Native Americans.
Obama has started to aggressively reach out to Native Americans in word and deed. In his words he has put together a policy which truly addresses Native problems. In his deeds he has actually gone to Indian reservations to seek our votes. He is also the co-sponsor of the all important Indian Health Care Improvement Act. And he continues to seek the Native vote.Obama Eyes American Indians In Presidential BidHe said more money needed to be invested in schools and substance abuse programs, and said he would appoint an official in his White House to work with tribal leaders across the country.
"As president of the United States I'm not just going to have a Bureau of Indian Affairs that is off on the sidelines somewhere," he said. "I'm going to have an annual summit with Native American leaders, tribal leaders. They're going to meet directly with me."

That only would be true, IF Native American voters actually came to believe that Barack Obama would put their objectives ABOVE the objectives of African-Americans! What did writerfella do with that listing of LendingTree pieces of swampland?

A lot of Indians do believe Obama has their best interests at heart.
In which cases are Native and African American objectives at odds? If there are any examples of such, I can't think of them at the moment.
There's no necessary reason for Obama to put the interests of his black half over his white half or any other half. If I were a candidate, for instance, I'd take the Indian and black sides on the issues more often than I'd take the white side. I'm loyal to rationality, not ethnicity.
P.S. You sound a little prejudiced against black people, Russ. I hope that's not the case.
The only hope for this country is Ron Paul. He has a proven honest track record. He believes people should be in charge of their lives not the Federal government and believes in honoring ALL treaties. Check him out, you might be pleasently suprised. Ron Paul in 2008!
I did check out Ron Paul. He wants to strip citizenship from American citizens who had a parent who was an illegal alien. He wants to get rid of one of the good things that sets the US apart from other many other nations.
If Ron Paul had his way, US would then become like Syria, which has generations of citizens of Palestinian ethnicity, all native-born Syrians, who are denied citizenship because of their parentage.
I've witness Paul's followers show complete contempt for the First Amendment by trying to shout down/shut down political events of opponents. I also recently wrote in my blog about how he (his campaign) trashed my church's parking lot. I gave him a chance, but his views and the dirty tricks of his campaign turned me against him.
Paul does not respect all treaties. He wants to reject the NAFTA treaty and many others. Come to think of it, I think he is the most anti-treaty candidate out there. If you can even call him a candidate: his "candidacy" is a vanity trip, not a serious attempt.

And as much as writerfella has avoided playing any kind of 'race card,' Rob had no such qualms as witnessed by what was written above...

Russ, we're waiting for you to say something positive about black people (e.g., the Pequots, Lumbees, Chickahominies, or Barack Obama). And don't bother saying the Pequots, Lumbees, and Chickahominies are only black. They have black and Indian genes and therefore "genetic racial memories."

Such a position therefore excludes 'racial memories' as any kind of factor in determining who is Native and who is not. Luckily for you, Thuringen Man likely wishes he could not claim you as one of his descendants, as you would ask for his CDIB card if he wanted to eat at your table...

Re "But -- but -- but -- Rob, your claim always has been that government recognition renders Natives as Natives": Not exactly. I said it's the standard by which we can recognize Indians. Anyone who meets this standard is arguably an Indian. 560-plus tribes accept this standard even if you don't.
But the opposite--that people who don't meet this standard aren't Indians--isn't necessarily true. In fact, I've never said that self-identified Indians who don't belong to federally recognized tribes aren't Indians. The question is simply more complex in their cases because there's no standard.
