Lending their mugs in the character images below clockwise from left to right are Noah Ringer as Aang, Slumdog Millionaire's Dev Patel as Zuko, The Twilight Saga: New Moon's Jackson Rathbone as Sokka, and Nicole Peltz as Katara.
The Last Airbender, the first in a planned trilogy of Avatar-based films, recently wrapped principle photography in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has entered post production with an anticipated July 2, 2010 release.

This is apalling.
Aang and Zuko should be light-skinned East Asians. Katara and Sokka should be darker-skinned Inuit/Native Americans.
Why would they make this movie if they were just going to whitewash all of the heroes?

Ugh! This movie looks terrible! First they change the martial arts styles of bending. Then they change the emblems for each of the nations. Then zuko's hair and scar, and don't forget aang's tattoo. Now, even Sokka and Katara don't even look like their characters! WTF!?
FAILURE! I am not going to pay to see this pile of steaming crap!

This cartoon never impressed me. Sounds like another "Golden Compas": an uninspiring movie laden with bad CGI that HBO/etc will show about 8 times a day.
Yes, it seems like there are millions of these generic fantasy stories floating about. Limiting it to the ones that use the "four elements" (earth, air, water, and fire) reduces the number to thousands. ;-)
