One also should remember that Homer Simpson is make-believe (and badly-drawn, at that), just like The Rapture, Manifest Destiny, and white cultural superheroes...

One also should remember that people learn from make-believe stories. These stories range from the Bible to Coyote legends to the latest movies and TV shows.

Indians don't hold that their legends are make-believe, either. But no one alive now has experienced the events in these stories firsthand. They believe the stories are true, which means they take them on faith.

P.S. I criticized the "militia dudes" at length in Klansmen, Neo-Nazis, and Christian Patriots, so I'm not worried about them.
