"Poverty Porn" column in ICTMN

Last month I called the 20/20 special Hidden America: Children of the Plains "poverty porn." Well, I converted that posting into a column and Indian Country Today Media Network recently published it. Check it out:

‘Children of the Plains’ Was Little More Than ‘Poverty Porn’

For more on the subject, see "White Journalists" on Native America Calling and Children of the Plains Political Cartoon.

Does anybody else get a weird image with the phrase "poverty porn"? Money shots of guys saying "Brother, can you spare some change?" A menage-a-trois of a father beating his son while Mom cowers in the back room, too afraid that if she stands up to dear old Dad, he'll beat her? A couple girls selling themselves for money for crystal meth? (Okay, that last one is getting too close to actual porn.)
