"The Black Hills are very unique," Nicolas Cage said in a news release authored by Disney Studios. "They were very, very special because it's Native American sacred ground. I found it uniquely beautiful and still something of a secret. I don't think people realize how beautiful that is in our own backyard."

Cage awed by Black Hills
Film's cast say Hills 'inspired' performersAlthough they only spent two weeks filming in the Black Hills, the actors and filmmakers of "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," say they were deeply affected by their experiences in South Dakota.

writerfella and his cousin Milton Paddlety saw 'BOOK OF SECRETS' early on opening day and can say that it was an immensely appealing and enjoyable entertainment, much better in pacing and construct than the original. With the film now cooling in their appreciations, however, they now have a couple of small questions: 1., what were the Olmec supposedly doing building Cibola in what is now South Dakota? and 2., for a plot heavily involving Native American pictographs and their meanings, why was there not a single Native American to be seen in the film? Just a couple of sobering points, to be sure, but cogent...

I'm glad to hear Book of Secrets is better than the original. Maybe I'll see it sometime.
It couldn't be much worse than the original. I usually love mainstream action movies, but National Treasure was one of the most mediocre examples of the genre. Rob's rating: 6.0 of 10.

But- but - but - Rob, there's too much violence there for your tastes! It's worse than when they had to shoot Old Yeller! And remember how traumatized you were by that film! No, no! Stay away! You'll have tension nosebleeds for the next two weeks! Why? Because they actually let Ed Harris (whom writerfella had an, um, er, uh, relationship with when they both attended Oklahoma University back in 1971), they actually let Ed Harris DROWN! Oh, no, Rob! AVOID this movie! And it will do better without you!

No movie that's rated PG has too much violence for me. I usually avoid only the bloodier half of the R-rated movies.
That's VERY disturbing about Ed Harris.
