The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best

And here's Stephenie Meyer's two cents:

Apparently the rumors weren't just some mistake or misunderstanding. Lautner had to prove himself before Meyer and Weitz would confirm him. Which raises the question I asked before: What were the producers thinking when they hired Lautner in the first place? Were they too dumb to realize Lautner would have to play a convincing werewolf in the sequel?

Now the Twilight sites are discussing who they want cast as the Quileutes, most are naming their favorite Italian or Spainard, cause brown hair is brown hair and it is all the same right? One girl even said she didn't think Krys and Solomon (actually Natives from Oregon) had the right look and that Taylor was the only one with the right look for the role.
