Dean Martin's Not Enough Indians

Wagon train of lovin' moving slow
And I can see the peace pipe burning low
You criticize each little thing I do
But listen baby, I've got news for you

There's too many chiefs and not enough Indians around this house
Baby I'm tired of this old game we play called cat and mouse
If you don't give just a little bit more
We're both gonna lose this race
'Cause there's too many chiefs and not enough Indians around this place

Trouble on our happy hunting ground
'Cause you keep stepping too far out of bounds
It's hard to run this reservation right
When you stay on the warpath day and night

Well there's too many chiefs and not enough Indians around this house
Baby I'm tired of this old game we play called cat and mouse
If you don't give just a little bit more
We're both gonna lose this race
'Cause there's too many chiefs and not enough Indians around this place

Look at all the things I have to do
To keep this teepee running just for you
Well time's are tough and wampum's hard to save
Just remember who's the squaw and who's the brave

Well there's too many chiefs and not enough Indians around this house
Baby I'm tired of playing this old game called cat and mouse
If you don't give just a little bit more
We're both gonna lose this race
'Cause there's too many chiefs and not enough Indians around this place
Comment:  The "video" is kind of lame since it doesn't show any images. But at least you can hear Dean Martin sing.

The person who posted it said it might be "politically incorrect." Translation: It's definite incorrect, not to mention stereotypical and racist. Again, imagine Martin singing about half-naked indigenous Africans hunting with spears. No way would we tolerate a song that portrays blacks as primitive savages.

The poster also said it's a "bit sexist." Translation: It's totally sexist. There's nothing in this song that isn't sexist.

I can just imagine a real Lakota woman's response to this "brave's" behavior:

White Buffalo Calf Woman Society celebrating 31 yearsDivorce and “marriage for some tribes was a very quick ceremony.”

“All a woman had to do is gather his things and set them outside the teepee and he knew then he was no longer welcome in her home. The teepee was her domain--her home. Property belonged to us and it was ours to give or to keep.”
And if he laid a finger on her?A domestic violence survivor, Black Bear told two similar stories “about how a man was handled if they raped or battered a woman especially in marriage”--one involving a gun and the other a knife but both with a lethal ending. The stories “served as a warning to Lakota males before European settlers changed their lives forever.”In other words, "Get the hell out of this tipi, you drunken louse, before my kinfolk turn you into a soprano."

Alas, most people who commented on this YouTube video waxed nostalgic about the song and slammed anyone who called it stereotypical. Isn't it nice how men used to be men and women used to be chattel, they implied. In other words, most people are stupid and ignorant.
