Hoopa named Miss Indian World

Hoopa woman is crowned 'Miss Indian World'Brooke Grant, a 22-year-old woman with roots deep in the North Coast, was crowned Miss Indian World at the 26th annual Gathering of Nations, held April 23- 25.

Grant is a member of the Hoopa, Yurok and Karuk tribes as well as the Chippewa tribe, which is native to the Lake Superior, Wisc., area.

The Gathering of Nations is the most prominent American Indian powwow in the world, said a press release announcing her crowning.

Grant was chosen out of 25 American Indian women representing their different tribes and traditions, who competed in the areas of tribal knowledge, dancing ability and personality.

”This is the first time a woman from my tribe has been crowned and I am very proud of my accomplishments,” Brooke was quoted in the press release.
