7th Annual Red Nation Film Festival

From a press release:Red Nation Celebration announces film & tribute award winners for the 7th annual Red Nation Film Festival--The Authentic Voice of American Indian Indigenous Cinema. The awards were presented at the Red Nation Film and Tribute Award Ceremony, Tuesday Nov. 9th, at the CBS Studio Center in Studio City, CA.

Red Nation tapped New Mexico sculptor artist Phillip Mangas Haozous, son of the late Apache sculptor artist Allan Houser, to create and design “The Red Nation Statuette” Phillip Mangas Haozous created the design in three dimensions--and the world-renowned statuette was born.

Outstanding performances and film awards on closing night including:

  • Actress in the leading role > Tamera Feldman “Rez Bomb,” US

  • Actress in supporting role > Casey Camp Horinek “Behind the Door of a Secret Girl,” US

  • Actor in supporting role > Gil Birmingham “Eclipse: The Twilight Saga,” US

  • Special “Tribute” Achievement awards:

  • American Indian Heritage Month Award > California Native American Heritage Commission, Larry Meyers, Dave Singleton

  • Red Nation Vision Award > Chief Oren Lyons (Wolf Clan, Onondaga), faithkeeper and world spokesperson for the rights of indigenous peoples

  • Edward Albert Jr Indigenous Film Award > Oliver Stone, director

  • Brando Award > Vicangelo Bulluck--Executive Director of the Hollywood Bureau of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)

  • Best Network Award > ABC Disney

  • Red Nation Humanitarian Award > Dr. Jane Goodall

  • Red Nation “Oyate” Award > Elizabeth & Dennis Kucinich

  • Red Nation Community Award > Ken Taylor, American Indian Revival Church

  • Red Nation Theatre Playwright Award > Tim Robbins, “Break The Whip”

  • Red Nation Activists Award > Joe Brings Plenty--Chairman Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation
